Which makers register the most new vehicles in Tamil Nadu each month, what kind of vehicles they make, and how that has changed.
What this page shows, in plain words
Makers
The maker is the company that built the vehicle, as recorded when it is registered on VAHAN, the Government of India vehicle register.
Change
Month on month compares a month with the one before it. Year on year compares it with the same month a year earlier. Year on year starts with January 2026.
Not the same as sales
A registration is not a dealer sale. A vehicle sold at the end of a month may be registered in the next. Only complete months are shown.

About these figures
- Source. VAHAN Public Report, Parivahan Analytics, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India (analytics.parivahan.gov.in). Downloaded by us; the latest download is dated 1 November 2026.
- Registrations, not sales. A vehicle is counted when it is registered with a Regional Transport Office. This is not the number sold by dealers, and a vehicle sold in one month may be registered in the next.
- Complete months only, from January 2025. A month is published only after it has ended. The latest month shown is October 2026. A year is the sum of its months.
- Only official figures. Every number is as published by VAHAN. The only things we calculate are the change against the month before and against a year earlier, in percent: (this period − earlier period) ÷ earlier period. We do not calculate shares or per-person figures.
- VAHAN revises recent months. A month can change by one or two vehicles when we download it again. Two reports for the same month can therefore differ by that much. When a published figure changes, the change is logged.
- Bus column left out of group splits. In VAHAN’s reports that split vehicles by category group together with makers, offices or states, the “Bus” column counts some vehicles a second time (they are also in another group). We leave that column out. With it removed, each split is within 0.01 percent of the month’s total. The files we downloaded are kept unchanged.
- Checks. Before publishing we check that every split adds up to the same monthly total (to within two vehicles, because of the revisions), that each maker has the same total in its fuel, vehicle-type and office reports, that the Tamil Nadu row of the all-states reports agrees, and that every name is in our list of values.

Figures are registrations of new vehicles recorded on VAHAN, not dealer sales. Only complete months are published. VAHAN revises recent months by one or two vehicles, so totals in different reports can differ by that much. In the category-group files VAHAN's Bus column is left out, because VAHAN counts some vehicles in it a second time (they are also in another group).
